Dissrespectful Climbers.......!!!

Post by rockclimbingdude »

About three weeks ago I decided to take my family with me on a trip to the gorge. We decided to camp at Miguels right by roadside. We got there a little late and set up for the night. As i walked by the fire to head back to get some stuff out of the car I heard a bunch of snide remarks about my 4 year old daughter being there. I ignored it and went on about my business. So my partner and i were finishing up with the stuff in the car and my wife and daughter decided to go sit by the fire. Well a few minutes later at the top of his lungs some JERK, with no respect for the fact that a four year old was 5 feet from him, hollars at the top of his lungs " Fu@#%ng B@#$H" and laughed about it! What a pathetic group of people that were there that night. Its really disheartening to see that kind of action out of a person who climbs in the same area as i do. My daughter may not have been there to climb but I was!! Like it or not she was with me and she is a future climber and deserves respect, the same respect that we as a group give each other!!!!!

Yeah man, there are pricks all over. I have kids too and have been around people such as you are describing. Don't really care if he was drunk or high, or whatever, he probably deserved an ass-kicking. Not from me, I'd lose. Anyway, I have noticed that as climbing increases in popularity I meet more jerks. Most are cool, but the pricks really stand out.
I've had just about enough of this shit.

That's bullshit. I wonder what kind of respect the dude showed Miguel's kids? I mean, Miguel's is a family business!

I'm sure the dude was just trying to show off in front of his butt buddies.

I had a great time top roping with my friends and their one year old the other day.
I'd rather climb around kids than loud mouth punks like that any time. Sorry you had to deal with such disrespect in a "climber's" camp, it's these people that give climbers
a bad name! One positive note, if your child starts climbing soon she can put up
topropes for those morons in a few short years!!!

Insecurity fosters insensitivity. Sorry your baby had to hear that!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

You are right SCIN, now that i think about it i believe his daughter was there at the fire too, she's older but still....Dont get me wrong I let shit slip all the time but i would never do sutch a blatent thing in front of a child, nor would I have an issue with someone camping near me with a kid. I guess they thought i wasn't a climber. Like I was just there with my family intruding on their space. :x

I hate to play devil's advocate but that's the element that a "rockclimbing" camp site will provoke. When you go to a trashy nuisance, the nuisance isn't going to change. I agree that it's disrespectful. Still, I'd hate for your 4-year-old to hear what comes out of my mouth at the cliff. I would try to temper it but there's no guarantees.

This "trashy nuisance" arguement reminds me of my old climbkentucky.com issues. The thing is, Miguel asks for people to be respectful and quiet, no matter what it is, people should respect the owners wishes. I doubt he would have approved... and I'm sure he's always happy to see kids there.

Well, after all the changes Miguel has in the works takes place, the trashy nuisances will be nothing but a RRG memory like the Roadside camping days.
