Does this change any business plans, models, or schemes?

Anyone know when this happened or what the deal is?
Driving along NC Rd this morning I noticed that it is now Quest Community Church. Don't know if it is a church with a climbing wall and bowling alley or what the deal is, but it appears to be the closure of the only commercial 'gym' in Lexington. What will birthday parties and boy scout groups do now?

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
You're living in a Marxist fantasy here. It takes somebody with a bona fide financial interest to clean the toilets. You think there's a lot of bitching on here now? Set up a nonprofit co-op and watch the venom run.Saxman wrote:Why does a gym have to be commercial/for profit? I want the gym to be successful enough to thrive, ie. continue to grow and add amenities. I will be making my living as a pharmacist, not from a gym. If the majority want a commerical gym, then that is fine, but I think not having to worry about making enough profit to support a family will allow the gym to be more successful, not less. I was going to wait until I graduated to run with this idea, but I think there is enough interest and people who have a lot of drive to make a non profit gym work.

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

My 2 cents...
My dealings in the co-op caused me a lot of grief. I spearheaded the initial effort but it quickly got pulled into a million different directions and turned into something we didn't want. Ray and I knew what we wanted to build. It didn't match what other's wanted so we bailed and built our vision.
Hindsight, I would say that if the tasks were broken up into committees, as neuroshock mentioned, that things would've run smoother. And if someone outside of the committee doesn't like the decisions of the committee, they need to just keep their opinions to themselves for the sake of keeping the peace in the co-op.
It could work. I believed in it once and I still believe in it. But only if a select few "run the show", so to speak.
One thing is for sure...
I quickly learned from the initial co-op effort that I'll never go into business with friends.

Does he have a strange bear claw like appendage protruding from his neck? He kep petting it.
Climb Time never made any real money. Half the time it was being run by a bunch of high school kids. The bathrooms weren't always super clean and we weren't always on time on sunday morning when the "greasey beast" would show up right at ten. But it was a place to train and it stayed open for around ten years. It seems that with the co op idea that people get excluded and consequently people get angry. Lexington Rocks was nice but that may have been part of its downfall. Lurkist is right just find a place that's cheap and throw up the big bird so we can ALL get stronger.

i'm more inclined to say that if someone outside the committee doesn't like the decisions of the committee, go ahead and voice it. make your argument to the committee. just keep in mind that you may be overruled in the end and just have to live with the decision.Artsay wrote:Hindsight, I would say that if the tasks were broken up into committees, as neuroshock mentioned, that things would've run smoother. of course, there's also a chance that they might not have thought of what you're bringing up and it'll change their minds.
