I have been talking with the owner of an existing business about building a boulder-only gym. He already has a sucessful business and has the space to build a set a bouldering walls about the size of LR's bouldering walls. He is reluctant to build because he knows nothing about climbing and is concerned about construction costs and bringing in enough business to justify his expense up front.
How many folks in Lexington think they would use a boulder-only gym about that size?

i think the idea of a boulder only gym is alil risky knowing that you wouldn't be able to make profits off partys and wut not. i think in order for that to work you would need so many to commit to paying a montly price to justify building it. i would love to see a gym go up and i would support any form of it, TRs bouldering etc. and i think we are heading the right way. maybe a meeting would be helpful in order to all agree upon certain measures.
Who Me? I gotta hitch hike god damn 18 miles to get a god damn beer......that's bullshit.
I would be interested in a gym (bouldering, roped, either or) in Lexington. If it was bouldering only and the size or the old LR that would be great. For me personally, the location might be a determing factor in frequncey of visits memberships, etc.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
I'm game for a bouldering only gym. A concern that I would have if I were going to open a business would be the number of people who wanted year round access and those who just wanted one to use during the winter. That's got to be one of the biggest dilemmas/ headaches. I'd be one of those pesky ones that just wanted a membership from Dec-Feb.
I would join a bouldering gym. I'm concerned that he could not make a profit though. He'd have to require yearly memberships with money taken directly out of accounts. Climbers slack off going to the gym in the summer.
