Red Tags

Post by One-Fall »

I am sure this topic has been talked about before, but I was wondering what the ideas about Red Tags are on project routes. Do they mean:
1) No one can climb the route except the equiper
2) Anyone can climb the route but they can't send it
3) Anyone can climb the route and send it but can't claim it
4) Something else entirely

I have a closed project that has tick marks all over it that aren't mine, and I was wondering what the unofficial rules in the Red are.

Not to change the topic dude but your line at The Gallery looks rad. Kind of like Orange Juice in the way that it follows a distinct line of pockets up an orange wall. Are you close to doing it?

Oh, and I always thought red tags meant stay the hell off.

Those red tags could mean that I get to get on the route knowing that the Red tags mean stay the hell off and knowing I never do a lick of work but sit back and reap the harvest and then be a puss about it and not say anything to the guy who put it up or deny it like a scared bitch if called out.
That might be it... but I don't think so.

Hugh. . . you have got to form an opinion. :)

Ray, I bolted the Tribute in memory of John and Alex, and I red tagged it so that the name would stick once I sent it. Getting the FA doesn't mean a whole lot to me, but the name does.

The route turned out harder than I thought (13a-ish), and I think it would require the rest of the season for me to do it, and I don't think I am willing to miss out on all the other great lines at the Red for one send.

I am going to finish cleaning it in a few weeks, and then I leave on my internships for 8 months. If I don't get it before I leave, I feel that I need to open it up so that it just doesn't sit there. My thoughts are to open it with the requirement that the name stays. I know this goes against tradition, but I dont want to be selfish and just keep it closed till I get back.

Any thoughts?

Um, if that is the line that someone ticked up, then I think they might have reason to think you have already opened it up:
One-Fall wrote:I bolted the line to the right of Break the Scene. It too needs ALOT of cleaning, but it is open. I haven't been down to the Southern Region in a bit, and doubt I will anytime soon.
If not that one, then it sucks that they didn't at least ask you about the line if it had a tag on it.

Wes,

It was a different route. I have been to a few crags around the country and Red tags don't have a consistent definition from place to place. I was just wondering what people at the Red thought.

one-fall If it is the route I am thinking of then keep that route and do it yourself you picked a plumb line and you deserve to send it and keep the name. That route lookes awesome and just f-ing do it man you are strong enough to do it.

red tags don't mean sh** at the red.... 8)

they "should" mean that the route is not open to the public, period. it may need more cleaning, sent, or just unsafe at that time. without directly talking to the equipper, people have no business jumping on red tagged lines.
ok, I've vented. I'm done.
