Since the past weekend looked like it may be a complete mad house my freind and I road our bikes back to purple valley located at the end of 9. The route just left as you would come up the trail I believe it to be Coffee talk or house 10c I think. The anchors at the top looked at little scetchy. Now I am not an expeirenced bolter and wouldn't know what would be concidered acceptable or not, but that was the first route I have ever been worried about being lowered on and wanted to rappell. Who would I notify that would be qualified to repair or inspect?
Left anchor pulled out about quarter inch and right is rusted to where it won't tighen up and spinning. They are spaced apart about 11 inches with one hardware store link in each. So as you load them they pull together and they are located on the adjacent wall which increases the load the anchor that appears to be pulling out.
Proably nothing. But hate for there to be an accident that could have been avoided.
By the way the climbing was great and only saw one person all day, and he was hunting.
Who to call for route maintance??
gullwing, make sure you put a comment in the online guidebook. that won't get the anchors fixed but it'll warn folks for certain.
I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Why should it always be up to someone else. Here's how it could happen. A group of concerned climbers (you and your partners) could get together and buy a drill. That's what some friends and I did. We did it because no one was fixing the routes we were doing. There was no internet and no one to ask. So, while I'm sitting here typing the above, it comes to me in a moment of clarity. You know the the Team Suck jug at RRO, well if everyone is serious about fixing routes, then that fund could be used to buy a communal drill. There has been about $120 or so put into the fund so far. I will add that to future proceeds and when we get enough we could buy a drill. We could then set up a system to loan it out for route maintenance. It could be located at RRO? We could teach people how to re-equip routes. It would be a beautiful thing. What do you all think?
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,

KD, Replacing current anchors with new ones, doesn't require FS approvel. It would be pretty easy to set up a sign up sheet for the drill. I would say people should buy their own bits, and be at least sorta responable if they *fuck it up*. Maybe they have to go through a short couple hour course before they can check it out? I would put up some money for this as well.

Sunshire,
If you read the post I made it clearly states I have no experience with putting up a route, and would hate to inproperly do so and fuckup somones life.
On the other hand I am more than willing to assist in repairing routes on 9. And further more if you are willing to help I will buy the drill and what ever else we would need to do this. Time and money is not my concern its the safty.
And on another note I didn't even know if it would be ok for me to tote a drill into the Red and start drilling. And if it is maybe after a bit of education I could put up a couple of routes, and maintain the existing ones I spend time on.
