Wow. Slashed all four tires while they were driving away? Really? And they didn't even get a cigarette flicked on 'em? That is soooooo cool.

I know some people who caught a man and a woman in the "act". He was in the bush wishing he had a machete. The only thing that was flat was her saggy boobs. But, he got her in the end.

that's an amazing story of slashing tires with a machete.

this is an example of what really needs to be done about the situation (from a mtn biking forum in IL):

That’s a great story, the difference at the Red is that we do not have the support of the local police.
Danny is the guy that sat out in the parking lot Saturday. He did not see any suspicious cars or people that day. We took up donations from most of the people that were climbing at the Mother Lode that day and were able to monetarily thank him in addition to the multitude of "Thanks so much" that he received.

Another difference is the Lode is on private property. If these break-ins were occurring on FS property the authorities would quickly be on the case as it is a federal offense.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,

The person told me that the tire slashing was going on while the people were getting back into the truck, putting the key in the ignition, and turning the car on.

I don't know if there is a police report or not--the sheriff didn't sound that concerned about either offense.

That is correct, the Mother Lode is on private property and is not relevant, Fixer Road is a county road and is treated same as any other road.

Being arrested and then released, which is what has happened, is clearly not enough to stop this guy from breaking into cars!

just for clarification, the mother lode parking lot is off Bald Rock Road, which turns into Fixer Road after the creek crossing.

There was a similar sting at Jackson Falls (IL) a few years ago. It was actually climbers who were doing the break-ins, and when they were arrested, one of the guys had a handgun(?) loaded with hollowpoints.

But again, that required the support of the police, which seems to be lacking here. Contacting KY tourism is a great idea, but would it also be possible to get some of the local business to contact the county commissioners for them to lean on the sherrif? I'm thinking of the Shell station, the motels, er, anyone else get business from climbers?

The Red is becoming globally known for climbing, but if it becomes globally known for break-ins, then people will stay away! (I'm going to the south of France this fall, and I'm going to avoid the crags that are famous for break-ins - too bad for the local businesses...)

Has anyone filed a report with KENTUCKY STATE POLICE? I don't think they have.
