What are you reading?
Glad you liked it. I liked it, too, but not as much as SUTTREE, CHILD OF GOD, and BLOOD MERIDIAN. Still, it was good. I'm thinking about starting the Western trilogy.bazoqop wrote:Re-reading Cormac McCarthy's new novel, No country for old men.
Great. Damn great.
McCarthy is the greatest living American writer.

"releading cormac mcarthy" that's not hard to do. I relead every other sentence. just lead "blood meridian" . not for the weak, pumpy and bloody.
jumped into "all the pretty horses" much easier leading but rewarding.
now into the second pitch of the trilogy "the crossing" way tougher maybe an 11. I don't know I can't climb 11.
interesting concept for a trilogy, looking forward to the third pitch. does anyone have any beta on it? i hope it lives up to the first two.
also the new book "no country for old men". is it up to standards or is it choss.

How is No Country for Old Men? A guy I used to know was fond of saying that the worst p*ssy he ever got was wonderful.
It was wonderful.
I thought that Child of God was excellent. Lyrical, with characters out of Faulkner's South. Suttree was surprisingly human after the mythical nature of Blood Meridian. But nothing measures up to the power of Blood Meridian.

Reading Boss of Bosses by Joe O'Brian, about the bugging of Joe Castellano's mansion and his subsequent assassination. It' s a decent true crime story and different in that it's a mob story written from a FBI perspective. If you want a great read check out How I Became Stupid by Martin Page.
Today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go fuck himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.
Sutree was great but Blood Meridian is very special. " He never sleeps. He says that he will never die. He is dancing light and in shadow and he is a great favorite. He never sleeps, the judge, He is dancing, dancing. he says that he will never die."
Damn.
The border trilogy is great but the last one ( Cities of the Plain ) was a bit of a letdown compared with All The Pretty Horses. but still...
