True, I made the shirts and if I knew it was going to create that much animosity, I wouldn't have done so. If you look carefully, Greg, not even Rick nor Liz was in that shirt. Not to say that we are an elitist group, the shirt was conceived prior to the boom in MV. If I had to make a new one this year for the Gathering, it would show no white space and be filled up with lots of "google head logos". I apologize and feel really sorry that such a thing has spurred some negativity. I'll take the blame for that one.

As for the Tim vs Greg debate, I really can't comment and take sides even if I wanted to bec I have no first hand information on the issue. I just really hope for the good of the community and for yourselves that this thing will be resolved soon. We are all a part of this - nobody's higher or lower. We're all in it together.

Remember the song by War:
"Why can't we be friends?"?

I propose that we all have a singalong next Sat night.

I have split this topic.

This situation makes me sad, but does not effect my opinion of either Spoonman or T-bone, for what it's worth...

Christian, The thread is now two threads.

And, why anyone in the climbing communty would think less of Greg for speaking his mind on the internet is beyond me. If so, then there are a whole bunch of peope on here that are not very well respected

Just a thought - and let me make clear that I am not speaking specifically of this situation - but Wes, if you think about it, there was a time when "speaking your mind" (the way we do now on the internet) can be a solid case of slander. Let me see anybody justify such a thing with a pair of rolling eyes emoticons in front of a judge.

It really all comes down to respect. If someone can't say the words they say on the internet to that person's face, then that someone has a bad case of dual personality or just a plain coward.

I think libel is the word you want, rather then slander, as it is written, not spoken. But I am not 100% sure about that. And, I am not sure that much of what we lay people like to call libel meets the legeal defination. Regardless, your point about saying things face to face is valid if they are posting annonymously, but not always true if the are posting as a *known* person.

Dear Squeeze

Or just hasn't learned the immense value of emotional honesty and direct communication. Sometimes we are hurt and/or afraid and we say or do things operating from those emotions.

Ah, libel it is then. Still, words have been falsely spoken/written that has damaged the reputation of people. Legal or not, it's a rotten thing to do.

A lot of people think they can just say anything on the net, bec it's so easy. You don't have the other person's reaction (facial, verbal, physical) to guide you and your words. There is also that neat little button that can magically take away anything that you have said. Sometimes, I wish I had that "edit" button in real life. Most times, I just try to respect and hope to be respected.

squeezindlemmon, True, people say stuff on here, but I bet that people talk more crap about others behind their back then here. At least here, you can read about it. Otherwise, you never know. Has anyone out there never been part of a negitive conversation about someone else when they were not there? PM's? Email?
