I have proBars that I could donate. Unfortunately, not much more than that at the moment. Would that help at all?

I had my second encounter today, they are beautiful human beings. Through all this they are gracious, courteous, and proud. I was able to offer them a more semi-permanent place to live if they wish, I got them a $50.00 gift certifacate to
Meyer, and I think I will be able to put Mr. Brooks to work as a welder. Anita, his wife, has office support skills and they're daughter is in 2nd year nursing school.
They started to cry when I gave them the card and explained all I was willing to do for them if they needed it. They are a lot more fortunate than most, they had time and a car to get out with. I think long term housing is they're first concern, then employment. I appreciate your offers and idea's, I will update and if need be put out the call again. I hope I see everyone at the Gathering.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.....
I saw a picture of a woman (black woman) holding her baby. Her expression said it all. I don't consider myself very sensitive, but man, I was nearly in tears watching her face on the net. Above all, she was obviously in fear, and that look of the uncertain future hit me like a waimea wave.
I am very glad for the people who had means and way to get out in time... even with little time, but for those who have stayed behind because there was no other option - NOW that is beyond me, and it hurts down deep in my guts.
Sure, I am not too happy since I am not doing very financially right now... I could be living a better life... BUT I am even more sad that my finances do not allow me to head down there and help those who-----no one else seem to care for.
All the sudden, I feel like yelling, and swearing. I will settle for a big breathe, and hopefully will soon find a way to help more than I am currently able to.

One of the most disturbing things I saw on the web (I don't watch television) was of a woman with her baby the day after the hurricane and then her again three days later. She was calm and happy to be safe the first day, talking about how everyone was helping everyone else. Three days later she was in complete panic, her baby wouldn't "wake up very easy," she had no water, and she was terrified.
The white Gretna police force was shooting at black people trying to walk across the bridge from New Orleans from the Convention Center. How fucked up is that? Oh, and they vote Republican over there.

So we should ignore that most of the poor in the South are black, right? Or we should just ignore that under the current Republican administration the median wage has decreased, the amount of Americans living in poverty has increased, and the percentage of wealth owned by the richest 1% has increased because it would require labeling people as median, poor, or ultrawealthy? The facts are still true whether you agree with the labels or not: our school systems are more segregated now than they were before Brown v. Board of Education and racism is as present and virulent as ever. Funny thing, in a NYTimes poll 36% of whites said race had nothing to do with the response time in N.O. while nearly 80% of blacks said it did. Is this just labels? Perspective? Liberal bias?pigsteak wrote:poor..black..democrats..public housing..it's the gov'ts fault..are we seeing a pattern here? white..racist..rich..republicans...uncaring...blah, blah, blah...keep the labels coming...it's what polarizes America.

Did anyone else notice that the black woman with teen daughter that came up and hugged on Bush during his first visit to Mississippi were wearing perfectly clean clothing and their hair and make-up was really nice? Not that Bush would fake anything...
