DMSO

Post by Wes »

Anyone out there ever use DMSO? I used it several years ago while rehabing ACL surgey, and it seemed to help. Now, I have been using it again for help with my elbow issues. After only a few treatments (and lots of time in the weight room the weeks before), I am really noticing an improvement.

I know of some of the side effects, but haven't had to much trouble so far.

Anyone else have any good and/or bad experences?

Hey Wes,
What is DMSO, and is it something I should consider for ankle?

I used to give it to my horse. It seemed to work pretty well.

None that I ever met. I definitely wouldn't want to have to trust somebody that was tripping to save my butt!

Hey that's not what you told me! What about all those stories about how you guys were lighting up with the bulls and the horses before the show!?

That was only because the horses brought some stuff from Mexico. It would have been really rude to refuse.

My understanding from college chemistry (so I may be wrong) is that DMSO's side effect's are not from DMSO, but from improper use. The way is works is it that it can pretty much dive straight through the skin. Then once in it will scavenge free radicals and hydorgen, increasing damaged tissue removal and increasing fluid movement to the injured tissue. But the problem lies in that as it is diving through the skin It can also pick up what ever is on the surface and take it in with it. So if you have gasoline, or soap, or lotion, or a little greese from a McDonalds hamburger, it can carry these through with it. So it seems that if you have clean skin and apply sparingly the stuff is great. To much could make a mess with the fluids of the body though (namely changes in water lattice structures).

Not to mention it smells like the top of Andromada strain on a rainy day.

No Mixing it with whiskey will not work.

  Disclaimer, I am an idiot, do not take my advice.

DMSO is dimethyl sulfoxide and is used as an industrial solvent. I think that says a lot about whether you want to apply it to your body. What I use for tendonitis is MSM, methylsulfonylmethane, a supplement that is a source of organic sulfur. From what I understand, sulfur is an essential nutrient for cartilege health. Our western diets are also deficient in organic sulfur. Another recommended supplement is proteolytic enzymes, something that I also use. I also use alternate ice and heat to the affected area for temorary pain relief and to stimulate blood flow to the area.
