Marketing is a great thing, huh?

We sometimes (well, often) forget in today's complex digital world the simple things. Rule #1 of weight management: calories out (burned) > calories in = weight loss. Yes, it's that simple. Each protein and carb has 4 calories, alcohol has 7, and fat has 9. Do the math on your cereal box, it adds up. Substitute a fat for a protein or carb and you've injested less than half the calories -- the reason low fat diets always work.

actually what the study is saying is that if you drink an energy drink and just sit around then you convert carbs to fats more quickly. i could throw hundreds of journal articles at you that demonstrate that caffeine converts fat to carbs more quickly (than a body without it) during activity. this is why it has been banned in many sports (has it been banned in the olympics?) because it's a performance enhancing drug. personally, my energy drink is a cup of coffee at the crag..

I'm curious, what sports have banned caffeine?

Paul3eb, Yes, it was banned by the Olympics, but I think only past a certain dose (meaning, java addicts can still enjoy their morning cup).

a study demonstrating the increased uptake of carbs caused by caffeine and its relevance to performance enhancement (no, not the type you get spammed about), especially in cycling:
http://www.foodqualitynews.com/news/new ... ine-sports

an article about the possible ban of caffeine in the austrialian football league:
http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,86 ... 17,00.html

if you're looking to break through "the wall" during a marathon, grab some caffeinated goo or the like. when your body runs out of stored carbs to burn (usually around mile twenty or so) it has to switch to burning fat, which is a much more difficult process for the body. caffeine speeds that conversion making it easier to break on through [to the other side!].

and meadows, thanks and i found this, too:
Because caffeine enhances performance in many individuals, it has been banned by the International Olympic Committee. But ironically, the level at which caffeine is banned far exceeds the amount needed to enhance performance. Higher, illegal levels are generally attained with caffeine supplements, since a 150-pound athlete would need to drink 3 to 4 large cups of coffee within an hour before activity to reach the upper acceptable limit. Just 1.5 to 3 milligrams of caffeine per pound of body weight (225 to 450 milligrams for a 150-pound man) is enough for an energy-enhancing effect. That's as little as one 10-ounce cup of coffee!

I wish they'd start selling a Gravy drink. You could just call it Pork Soda and get Primus to do a jingle!

Ooo Ooo! or a Lipo/feeding tube unit. They could just hook you up to an IV that sucked the lard straight out your ass and keep you going. For times when the Welfare office is giving you grief about this month's check....just turn on the ASSupport System till you can get that crack rock sold, or until your daughter turns a trick.
