Re: New to climbing..need help
Thanks to both above. Very helpful. In fact I do plan on using a guide. I don't plan on getting killed. It's good to hear from someone who knows the area.

Re: New to climbing..need help
Gotcha
I'm keeping a list of recommendations.
I'm also trying to keep up with the vernacular....I can only imagine what a sporty is (probably me)

Re: New to climbing..need help
Trad, I'm not sure if that's the East Face or East Buttress, I think the latter. Thanks for the suggested training climbs. I'm going to be in touch with a guide at the RRG who will most certainly help. As I recall my climb at the Grand, it was rated 5.6, but we did it in 2 days. We plan 3 days at Wh...

Re: New to climbing..need help
@caribe The east approcah is rated a 5.6 with some technical components in fact. I'm aware I can do the Mountaineers approach, or even some easier, but I do want to do some scrambling and roping. I'm a novice climber, but I don't apologize for that. I just want to do this climb, and then more if I'm...

Re: New to climbing..need help
Thanks for your insight and advice. I'm recovering from a traumatic accident a few years ago and the loss of my wife & children. After years of rehab I'm now near-ready to climb again. I've been able to bike & run, now I want to be a bit more active. But, when I need someone to bring me &quo...

Thanks.
I'm looking to do the east face. It's been about 8 years sicce I climbed the Grand and have done no climbing since then.

Re: New to climbing..need help
wow...!!!!!!! So many responses. Thanks to all. Truly. To the one who asks, I plan on doing the east approach summer of 2012. The east buttress might be a little more than I want to take on at this point. I look forward to getting to the RRG soon. Let me further de-code the suggestions, and I'm sure...

Re: New to climbing..need help
I have no idea what that response means, I suspect it's quite snarky. I seemed to have missed the humor.
My post was hopeful and sincere. I truly hope however you aren't an example of other climbers at RRG.
