Re: From the gym to the crag: The revenge of the gumby
Having been down the path you are on it is great to see you wanting to help new folks get off on the right foot. I have always been amazed how so many climbers know very little about ensuring their own safety or those they climb with. I use to say that some folks have a broken danger thermometer and...

Re: Triumphant Return

I have had the privilege of having my son and other young friends get the old guy up some routes. Hope you get that with your kids down the road as it is...

Re: Disability is a perception...
I guess there is some word play involved in terms like disability. Someone who has lost a limb has a physical disability, disadvantage or whatever we choose to call it. What they don't have is a limitation imposed on them by others viewing their situation from a distance. This is an inspiring video ...

Re: ACCESS TO ROADSIDE - closed unttil further notice
"First they came…" is a famous statement attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. How in the world do you justify using a statement about the r...

Mikes Rant
Guess I have been climbing about 20 years now and things certainly have changed a lot in two decades. In regards to folks decking while being belayed with a Gri-Gri I just wanted to see if this makes sense or possibly plays a part in this happening. I am not a great sport climber and when I started ...

Crane Cyclefest
On May 21st NSWC Crane will be hosting their 2nd annual Cyclefest. This is part of the national group known as Ride 2 Recovery. The proceeds go to helping wounded Vets who want to return to bicycling. Inspiring to say the least. Last year there was a young man there riding who had both prosthetic le...

Re: Just Curious As To The "Lame" Comment
Thanks Steph, Although I am no longer a gym owner I tried very hard to give new folks as much good info and habits as possible. I think the current staff at HH are still doing so. I have often said that it would be best to have experienced belayers at a gym to do the belaying for first timers and/or...
