It's not worth a trip from DC, by any means, but if you're in Charlottesville and desperate to climb something, Moorman's boulders will keep you busy for an hour or so: http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/list ... reaID=1075

Thanks! It definitely feels surreal. I know there won't be a lot of climbing time for me for the next two years, so I plan to climb at the Red with y'all as much as possible between now and August. Also, knowing that I'll be leaving makes me appreciate even more what a special place the Red is and w...

Besides Muir and Torrent, I'd check out the skybridge, roadside, the playground, and--if you climb trad--long wall. As ynot indicated, you've got a lot of options.

crazy moves

A friend of mine forwarded this video clip to me, and it's the wildest climbing I've seen in a while. These Russian(?) urban climbers have some crazy moves. If you've got a high speed connection and 10 minutes to spare, check it out: http://urban.zen.praktik.ru/albums/DvinskClan-LeParkour/DvinskClan...

The co-op group came darn close to building a gym before disintergrating under the challenge of getting consensus from a 30 person group. But given all the reasons chriss mentions and more, I'm still convinced that the co-op model is the best business model for Lexington. Lurkist, Pigsteak, Bram...w...

The answer to what gear you need to fill out a rack all depends on where you climb. Assuming you're climbing mostly at the Red, then I agree with Wes: 3.5 and 4 are really useful pieces here. Doubles of 1-3 are also very useful to have, since a lot of cracks are fairly uniform in size here. If you p...

I found a pair of climbing shoes at Phantasia on Sunday, 7/10. If they are your's, email me and identify them.

I knew a couple guys who have climbed Champe Rocks, and they said it's awesome. They said to either canoe in or get someone to drop you off early or late to cross over the private property. The road runs parallel to the river there for several miles, so you can probably find a fence row to follow to...
