You might want to look at an SKS. The Russian models command a higher price but they say they are worth it. The Yugo models are plentiful now but I've heard that their gas system are a little wonky some times. Some Norinco/Chinese models take AK mags but watch out, some say they do but the mags don'...

Gose Pike. That's an active quarry so I wouldn't go out there unless you are talking about a place across US 150. Your best luck will be out on Herrington Lake. There might be some out Goggin Lane close to KY 52 where Goggin crosses over a creek.
