Re: backpacking/climbing in South America

I did two amazing backpacking trips down there a few years ago--one out of El Chalten and one in Torres del Paine. Shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to share more information.

Re: Boulder, CO

Clear Creek Canyon is definitely worth checking out. It's very close to Denver, and not far at all from Boulder. Wall of Justice is a good spot with several routes in the grades you're looking for. There are some really steep climbs if you want to be reminded of home! Slammer is a super fun 12b that...

Recreational Use Statutes

The issue of recreational use statutes has popped up again, this time in the Muir Valley thread. In order to avoid further derailing that thread with this ridiculously long post, I thought I’d start a new thread. When we start to talk about fundraising for PMRP and Muir, people often ask why the Coa...

Re: Herd Mentality

I haven't tried it. I'll try next time I'm around. If I can send it in a day or two, downgrade it! (After giving me a few days to spray, of course.)

Re: Top Roping at the Red?

There are very few climbs at the Red where you can set up a top rope without someone leading the climb. If no one in your group can lead, I'd suggest hiring a guide. Check out http://www.redriveroutdoors.com.

Lost GriGri at Lode

Hi. I lost my GriGri at the lode a week or two ago. It's the original GriGri, it's red, with a gridlock biner and a pair of gloves clipped to it. Rohr is scratched on the back of the GriGri. I heard from folks climbing there the next day that someone picked it up with the intention of dropping it of...

Rumor has it that a GriGri 2 was turned into Miguels recently, so check there!

Re: Safety first, Canadians second

That sounds familiar, Vertical. I couldn't find anything saying it, tho. But I did find a few prominent members of the RRGCC board encouraging lowering. I believe the rules of Muir Valley used to say to rappel rather than lower. I just looked at the rules and didn't see that one. Perhaps the policy ...
