Re: Lost Ring
I found my ring, y'all! Somehow, it made it into my chalkbag, and I found it when I went to the gym last night.

Lost Ring
I lost my wedding ring at Military Wall on Sunday. It is a simple band fashioned out of white gold and has no jewels. It isn't worth much at a pawn shop, but it is worth a lot to me. I spent most of the day under the 12 wall, but I also walked over to Another Doug Reed Route and climbed it. My wife ...

Re: Kentucky's Tallest Cliff?
The Palisades = beautiful. One of the prettiest parts of Kentucky I have ever seen. I canoed up the Dix River to the damn from High Bridge a couple weeks ago. The cliffs are crazy tall there, but I don't like the idea of climbing on loose chossy limestone.

Re: Is this going to be in the online guidebook anytime soon
I've been there before for climbing. Rock is everywhere and of the same general quality as any other place in the Red. It is well worth it for development purposes and/or climbing. As for the concerns about religion... this is an episcopal church camp. Episcopal is like Catholic Light. Episcopals pr...

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing
Also, a good comparison chart might be the investment amount it takes to make a high volume meth lab and compare that to the cost it takes to get into climbing. I bet the return for the investment is greater to the redneck meth dealer than it is to the new climber. I know. I know. The fun you get fr...

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing
It's a preachy opinion piece against generalizations and assumptions that makes a huge assumption about poor rural people. I did not grow up in an Eastern Kentucky hollow, but I did grow up in a rural Kentucky hollow. Not everybody from a economically poor area wants to leave that area. "Unlike...

Re: Crag recommendations with shade and short hike
The Sore Heel parking lot area has a lot of short hikes to shaded Walls. The Shire is the coolest. It has the cave below the easy wall that helps the area stay cool a little more than most walls in the summer. Areas of the Gallery and Volunteer will be in shade depending on time of day. Bronaugh and...

Re: Gym to Crag Suggestions
Yeah, maybe two years is too long. A season or two is probably more reasonable for sport climbing.

Re: Gym to Crag Suggestions
Like milspecmark suggested, make friends with an experienced outdoor climber (which is not the same as a strong climber) and go with them a bunch before you ever go out leading on your own. Before the days of gyms, most new climbers got into the sport by "apprenticing" with other experienc...
