Linux does not cache DNS lookups. It queries a nameserver (or /etc/hosts file) every single time it needs it. There are probably easier ways of doing it, but I found it to be convenient to set up a (free) account with www.avantgo.com, and set up a custom channel for the guide. That way, every time I synced the palm with the PC, I got all of the current guide info at the same time.
